When I was a kid, having a name like Sun led me to believe I could control the elements. Like Storm, from X-men. I spent my elementary school recesses storyboarding my own superhero named Sunstorm - a spunky girl who scorched anyone who crossed her.
Imagine my disappointment when I grew up and learned two things.
One, superheroes aren’t real. Two, arson is a felony.
So is murder.
Still, I’m grateful for Sunstorm.
She may not have been real, but she sparked a real fire in me. A love for storytelling.
Sunstorm never made it off the page. But she did become my origin story.
